The Zukin is a lightweight helmet or armored cap from Japan. There are various types, named according to their armor style. The Kusari-Zukin features chainmail armor, the Karuta-Zukin has plate armor, and the Tatami-Karuta-Zukin mixes chain and plate armor in a foldable design. It is made from a fabric cap, available in different lengths. Some versions extend just beyond the ears, while others cover the shoulders. These helmets were used to be worn underneath other clothing or even beneath heavy armor (Yoroi). The chainmail and plate armor are more finely and delicately crafted compared to regular armor of these types. The helmet is secured to the head with the help of a band under the chin.
