Shitagi
The Shitagi (下着) is a type of underwear worn by the samurai class during the feudal era of Japan, under the armor. The function of this garment was to absorb sweat and prevent the armor from rubbing directly against the skin. With the progressive disappearance of the samurai class and the advent of the Meiji era, this type of underwear, known as 'kosode', was worn throughout the Edo period.
