Karuta Kabuto

The Karuta Kobuto, also known as Karuta Tatami Kobuto, is a helmet worn by Japanese samurai as part of their armor (yoroi).

The Karuta Kabuto is made of iron. Its bowl is made of rectangular plates, with different versions varying in the size and shape of the plates. The plates are connected to each other with chainmail.

This arrangement makes the construction of the helmet lighter compared to full-plate helmets and allows the helmet to be folded for easier transportation. The iron plates are often lacquered, providing protection against moisture and serving decorative purposes. The Karuta Kabuto was worn by lower-ranking samurai.
