Hara-Ate

The Hara-Ate (Japanese: 腹当[て]) is a type of armor from Japan.

The Hara-Ate is a light armor, in contrast to the heavy armor (Japanese: Yoroi), it only covers the front of the body. It consists of a kind of apron that includes a chest piece and a thigh piece.

The materials used vary. There are versions of Hara-Ate with plate armor ("Karuta"), chainmail armor ("Kusari"), as well as a type of brigandine ("Karuta-Tatami"). The version of the Hara-Ate-Karuta-Tatami-Do is foldable to make it easier to transport when not worn. The Hara-Ate is fastened with straps at the back.
